A Patient's Perspective on Chiropractic Care

"I had two pregnancies relatively close together, the second being physically a lot more challenging than the first.

Towards the end of my second pregnancy I developed sciatica. It went from the odd flare up, to being a bit annoying, to not being able to properly walk. I hoped it would just go away when I had the baby, but two weeks postpartum and I was still limping around, now with a baby in my arms.

I decided to try acupuncture, but this did nothing for me. After that, I decided to change the approach and saw Cathryn and she could instantly tell me where the issues lay. Only three sessions of gentle adjustments later and the pain was completely gone. However, I later developed lower back pain which was likely to have been caused by a weakened core, pelvic floor and low back/glute muscles.

Now I could concentrate on slowly strengthening these areas. Unfortunately there is no magic adjustment for this and it takes time, especially with two under two at home. But after a few months, I can definitely feel how I'm getting stronger and the pain is slowly subsiding.

Women in general, especially mothers, get so used to ignoring their pain. Either we're trying to not make fuss or keep others comfortable, and even at the doctors we often get told it's in our heads. After giving birth we only get paracetamol to deal with what's just happened, which can somehow feel like it's not meant to have been a big deal for our bodies.

Only when talking to Cathryn did it really sink in how much my body had been through after two pregnancies, two births, and carrying a baby around with me, no wonder I've been in pain.

I wish all mothers-to-be would be advised to seek some chiropractic care. We're sacrificing enough already, our body's normal functioning should not be part of it."
